Klagenfurt airport transfer

Klagenfurt International Airport i(KLU) is a small airport situated at 3 km from Klagenfurt city centre, in the heart of Carinthia – Austria. This airport is also called Alpe-Adria Airport or Airport Klagenfurt/Wörthersee due to its location. Klagenfurt Airport was opened for commercial flights in 1925, and its approximate annual capacity is 500,000. It is right next to A2 motorway, making it easy to access the airport. The closest airport is Ljubljana Brnik in Slovenia, at 47 km of distance. The airlines that serve Klagenfurt Airport are Ryan Air, Tyrolean Airways, Lauda Air, Sterling Blue, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, and TUIfly, all offering cheap flights. These airlines have eight destinations in three countries: London – England, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne/Bonn, Hannover, Berlin, Hamburg, (and very soon Munich) all the last seven are in Germany, and Vienne - Austria.

The Karawanken mountain range is located at the south of Klagenfurt, which is surrounded by many snow peaks. These mountains separate Carinthia from two countries: Slovenia and Italy. So, airport transfer from Klagenfurt Airport gives easy access to several Austrian ski resorts nearby. A one-hour ski transfer takes you to Bad Kleinkirchheim, Gerlitzen, and Bodental, the closest ski resorts to Klagenfurt Airport. However, airport transfer from Klagenfurt Airport can also take you to Scheleppe Alm, Altenmarkt, Filzmoos, Flachau, Nagrain, Forstau, Obertauern (all of these ski resorts in Salzburg Sportwelt Ski Area), Bad Gastein, Sportgastein, Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein (the last four in Gastein Ski Area), Flattach, Mallnitz, Mautendorf, Obervellach, Alpendorf (in St. Johann-Alpendorf Ski Area), Lienz, and Stuben (in Arlberg Ski Area), all of which would take 1,5 to 2 hours to be reached.

By choosing ski transfers from Klagenfurt Airport, you can also reach farther ski resorts, including Bad Mittendorf, Sillian, Tauplitz, and Maria Alm (Hochkönigs Wintereich Ski Area), all taking 2,5 hours. Moreover, within 3 hours distance, an airport transfer would take you to Jochberg, Lofer, Kitzbühel, Mittersil, and Seefeld (Olympia Region Ski Area). From Klagenfurt Airport, you can arrange ski transfer to Slovenian resort as well. Kranjska Gora, in Zgornjesavska Valley, is the nearest one (opened from December to March). Other Slovenian ski resorts are Zelenica (at 26 km distance), Trzic (at 31 km), and Bled (at 33 km), which is also opened from December to March.

It is possible to get to most ski resorts by bus or taxi instead of a private Klagenfurt airport transfer. But for groups of 3 or more it is often best to arrange a ski transfer Klagenfurt in advance with one of the Klagenfurt airport transfer operators. Booking a private Klagenfurt airport transfer will allow you to start you holiday without the stress of getting to the bus stations and paying expensive taxi fares.
