    Some Facts about Abondance

    Abondance is a popular ski resort within the Portes de Soleil ski area which is one of the largest of its kind in the world. There are 25 km of slopes available for skiing and snowboarding and  for all levels of enthusiast. 8 lifts transport the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 936 and 1,730 m. Abondance is a small town yet quite a lively one. It is a purpose built resort with some unique architecture. There is a choice of hotels and guest houses that cover all budgets. There are also restaurants and bars for après-ski entertainment.

    From which airport can I reach Abondance?

    The most convenient airport from which to reach Abondance is Geneva. Geneva is only one hour to most resorts in the Portes du Soleil region including Abondance. Please note if you fly into Turin airport you will have to travel through the Mt Blanc tunnel to get to any Portes de Soleil resort as other mountain roads and passes are closed during the winter. Other options for the French part of Portes du Soleil are Chambery or Lyon. Both Berne and Zurich are also options for the Swiss ski resorts but transfer time can be two to three hours during peak travel time. 

    Is there public transport to Abondance?

    With no direct rail link to Abondance the public transport options are limited. If you choose to take the train from any of the airports you will have to change. This means longer than average journey times. There are some options for public transport, and the most popular are listed below.

    • Take a train from Geneva airport to Thonon-les-Bains or Cluses, then a bus to Abondance
    • Take a train from Lyon airport to Thonon-les-Bains or Cluses, then the bus to Abondance
    • Take a train from Berne to Monthey and Champéry, then the bus to Abondance
    • Take a train from Zurich to Monthey and Champéry, and the bus to Abondance

    Advice on Transportation to Abondance

    While many people do use the above public transport links they are time consuming due to many changes. You are much better off booking an airport transfer from the airport where you land. You will benefit from a shorter journey time and a direct route. You also get the added bonus of travelling in comfort, and of a guaranteed journey that is pre-booked. Airport transfers are also the most cost-effective method of getting to this mountain resort.
