Avoriaz is a popular ski resort within the Portes de Soleil ski area. This is one of the largest of its kind in the world. There are almost 700km of pistes available. Slopes range from nursery slopes for beginners to more adventurous black runs. There are also many off-piste opportunities. Avoriaz is a small town yet quite a lively one. It is a purpose built resort with some unique architecture. There is a choice of hotels and guest houses that cover all budgets. There are also restaurants and bars for après-ski entertainment.
The most convenient airport from which to reach Avoriaz is Geneva. Geneva is only one hour to most resorts in the Portes du Soleil region including Avoriaz. Please note if you fly into Turin airport you will have to travel through the Mt Blanc tunnel to get to any Portes de Soleil resort as other mountain roads and passes are closed during the winter. Other options for the French part of Portes du Soleil are Chambery or Lyon. Both Berne and Zurich are also options for the Swiss ski resorts but transfer time can be two to three hours during peak travel time. We strongly recommend you use a direct airport transfer for the shortest journey time.
With no direct rail link to Avoriaz the public transport options are limited. If you choose to take the train from any of the airports you may have to change. This means longer than average journey times.
You can take a train from Geneva airport to Thonon-les-Bains or Cluses, then a bus to Avoriaz or there is a direct bus three times a day from Geneva airport. The journey takes about two hours. You will have to change transportation several times if traveling from Lyon or Grenoble and it may take up to five ours to get to the resort.
We recommend that you book airport transfers to and from Avoriaz. This convenient method of travel to and from the resort is also the most cost effective. You will take advantage of a travel in comfort and fast ride. It is by far the quickest method, and it is a guaranteed journey.
