    Brixen im Thale comes with a long and varied history. It is located at the highest point of the beautiful Brixental valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The Celts first settled the valley and built small villages here as established by archeological finds of axes and swords. The grassy slopes of the Brixental lie between the stony walls of the Wilder Kaiser and the snowcapped peaks of the Hohen Tauern. The Ice Age glaciers caused the valley to form a bowl shape, and the ancient rock formations make it ideal as a walking terrain. 

    The ski resort has 46km of Piste (800m to 1830m). Brixen im Thale is part of the SkiWelt area with access to 279km of downhill skiing, with 184 individual pistes, served by 91 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Brixen im Thale itself, the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other SkiWelt ski resorts of Ellmau, Going am Wilden Kaiser, Hopfgarten im Brixental, Itter / Muhtal, Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Söll and Westendorf.

    There are three airports within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Brixen im Thale are perfectly feasible.     Is there public transport to Brixen im Thale?

    • If you are coming from Salzburg or Innsbruck, you have to take the train via Wörgl to Brixen im Thale. The journey takes about two hours.
    • From Munich take the train via Wörgl to Brixen im Thale. The journey takes about two hours.

    Advice on Transportation to Brixen im Thale

    While many people do use the above public transport links they can be time consuming. It’s easier to drive from Salzburg and Innsbruck airports and reach the resort within an hours’ time than take the trains which take more than two hours. You are much better off booking an airport transfer from the airport where you land. You will benefit from a shorter journey time and a direct route.
