    The town of Courmayeur is situated at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. It lies in the beautiful Aosta Valley. Skiing in the region is among the best in Europe, with the neighbouring town of Chamonix offering a linked ski area. The slopes cater for all levels of experience, and there are many efficient lifts to take skiers up the mountains. Courmayeur is a pretty town with a rich history and offers a wide choice of accommodation. There are many excellent places to eat and après-ski entertainment is plentiful. The famous Mont Blanc tunnel is close to the town, and links the region with France by road.

    From which airport can I reach Courmayeur?

    The closest airport to Courmayeur is Turin. Milan, Geneva, and Bern are also viable options. Geneva and Bern require travel trough Mont Blanc Tunnel or San Bernard Tunnel respectively, which will increase your transfer cost. It is also worth noting that Courmayeur has no train station, but there is a railway between Aosta and Turin & Milan airport. You will have to travel part of the transfer by train and bus.

    Is there public transport to Courmayeur?

    If you are considering using public transport to get to Courmayeur there are many possible options. Any that use rail links will require changes at some point. This can make journeys lengthy and tiresome. Here are some of the more viable options on public transport:

    • Take a train from Turin to the railway station in Pré-St-Didier via Ivrea and Aosta, then it is 5km by bus to Courmayeur, it may take up to four hours to get to Courmayeur.
    • Take a bus from Milan to the railway station in Pré-St-Didier, 5 km by bus to Courmayeur, it takes 4 hours to get to Courmayeur.
    • Take a bus from Geneva via Chamonix to Courmayeur. It takes about three and a half hours.

    Advice on Transportation to Courmayeur

    As with most Alpine resorts the difficulty is with a lack of direct rail links. This means you have to make many changes, and the journey will be long. Airport transfers offer you a direct journey to the resort. You travel in comfort in a scheduled shuttle. The journey time will be the shortest possible.
