Innsbruck (50 km), Munich (170km) and Salzburg (150 km) airports are close to the Zillertal region and by daily scheduled flights directly connected to destinations all over Europe. These three airports are within two hours’ drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Fügen are perfectly feasible. Innsbruck Airport is just one hour’s drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly. There are buses which ply to the resort from all the airports liste above. However, if you are looking at using public transport be aware that there will be necessary changes. For train options to this resort, you must choose the DB / ÖBB-EC to Jenbach / Tyrol. From there, take the Zillertal Railway - to the terminal in Mayrhofen. From there, take buses going to Gerlos, Finkenberg or Tux. Trains are also available from Innsbruck airport and run from Mon-Sat every 2 hours. From Munich airport the trains usually take around 7 hours to reach Fuegen.
While many people do use the public transport listed above they can sometimes be time consuming like some train journeys from airports not listed above may take up a long time to reach the resort. You are much better off booking an airport transfer from the airport where you land. You will benefit from a shorter journey time and a direct route. You also get the added bonus of travelling in comfort, and of a guaranteed journey that is pre-booked.
