High in the mountain of Haute-Savoie, the village of La Chapelle d'Abondance offers a warm welcome to all people who visit it. Located in Northern French Alps, only 90 minutes from Geneva airport, the village lies at the heart of a traditional farming valley in Haute-Savoie. La Chapelle d'Abondance lies on the edge of the Portes du Soleil ski area which is one of the largest in the world. It is an established resort with a choice of hotels, guest houses and chalets. The skiing is of the highest quality with slopes for beginners, intermediate skiers and experts. There is also plenty of off-piste action. For après-ski entertainment the town has many bars and restaurants and is a lively place in the evenings. In addition to the skiing in La Chapelle d'Abondance itself (75km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Portes du Soleil ski resorts of Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Grande Terche, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine, Saint Jean d'Aulps, Champoussin, Champéry, Les Crosets, Morgins and Torgon.
The most convenient airport to reach La Chapelle d'Abondance by a long way is Geneva, which is only one hour to most resorts in the Portes du Soleil region including La Chapelle d'Abondance. Other options for the French part of Portes du Soleil are Chambery or Lyon. Both Berne and Zurich are also options for the Swiss ski resorts but transfer time can be two to three hours during peak travel time. Please note if you fly into Turin airport you will have to travel through the Mt Blanc tunnel to get to any Portes de Soleil resort as other mountain roads and passes are closed during the winter. We recommend airport transfers as the most convenient way of getting to the resort. You may also wish to consider car hire, with facilities available at all the listed stations.
With no direct rail link to La Chapelle d'Abondance or other resorts in the Portes du Soleil rail travel can be lengthy. Multiple changes will be needed in some cases. If you are using public transport the following may be of interest:
The usual alpine problem of a lack of rail connections means that public transport is not always the best way to get to La Chapelle d'Abondance from your airport of choice. Airport transfers are a convenient way to get to and from the resort. You can book them in advance and they are cost effective and comfortable. The convenience of an airport transfer cannot be overstated. You are buying the benefit of a direct journey and no changes.
