A popular ski resort in South-eastern France, Val D’Isere is home to some of the best skiing in the region and frequently hosts important alpine events. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful of all ski resorts in the region. There is also excellent summer skiing on the Pissaillas Glacier. The slopes in the winter months offer great skiing for all levels of experience. There are some notably fast runs and excellent off-piste options with good local guides available. You can reach Val D'Isere from a number of airports such as Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon St-Exupery as well as Turin and Milan Malpensa.
Please note if you fly into one of the Italian airports you will have to travel through the Mont Blanc tunnel to get to Val D'Isere as all the mountain roads and passes are closed during the winter season. Italian airports are not convenient during the winter season. We recommend you avoid them unless you pay virtually nothing for the flight.
The closest airport to Val D'Isere is either Chambery or Lyon. Both Grenoble and Geneva are also options but transfer time can be well over three hours during peak travel time. Val D'Isere is one of the big three ski resorts in the French Alps. There will be plenty of transfer options, and we strongly recommend that you either book an airport transfer or hire a car from your airport of arrival. Alternatively, see below for public transport options, but please bear in mind the lack of direct rail connection to the resort may mean long journeys.
